{"id":3221,"date":"2014-09-29T05:48:09","date_gmt":"2014-09-29T15:48:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.learnedleadership.org\/?p=3221"},"modified":"2014-09-29T05:48:09","modified_gmt":"2014-09-29T15:48:09","slug":"hows-elevator-pitch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learnedleadership.org\/divi\/hows-elevator-pitch\/","title":{"rendered":"How&#039;s Your Elevator Pitch?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t ride in too many elevators these days. \u00a0If you&#8217;re in the education world this is probably the same for you too, so the idea of the elevator pitch might be a little foreign. \u00a0For review,\u00a0the idea originates from the practice of pitching your great idea to someone of importance, if you ever happen to be riding in an elevator together&#8230;so approximately 30 to 60 seconds. \u00a0Of course, you don&#8217;t need to be in an elevator to give an elevator pitch, instead the concept has evolved\u00a0to include anytime you&#8217;re trying to convince someone else that your idea is compelling enough to make them want to learn more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redesign.learnedleadership.org\/divi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/salespitch.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3226\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/redesign.learnedleadership.org\/divi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/salespitch.png?resize=291%2C334\" alt=\"How's Your Elevator Pitch?\" width=\"291\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/learnedleadership.org\/divi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/salespitch.png?w=291 291w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/learnedleadership.org\/divi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/salespitch.png?resize=261%2C300 261w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 291px) 100vw, 291px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been reading about elevators pitches in Daniel Pink&#8217;s book\u00a0<em>To Sell is Human<\/em> where he outlines a number of successors to the elevator pitch, including the twitter pitch, email subject line pitch, and a few others. \u00a0He also asks the question &#8220;What&#8217;s your <em>I<\/em><em>nvisible Pitch<\/em>?&#8221; \u00a0Meaning if you asked those around you to describe you in 3 words, what would they say? \u00a0Pink describes the <em>Invisible Pitch<\/em> by saying,\u00a0&#8220;we don&#8217;t always realize it, but what we do and how we do it are themselves pitches. \u00a0We&#8217;re conveying a message about ourselves, our work, or our organization.&#8221; \u00a0Although not completely related, I&#8217;m reminded of the famous Peter Drucker quote\u00a0&#8220;culture eats strategy for breakfast.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite our best intentions and best plans what are you as a leader pitching to your community?
